Ankle Hurt, Severe Pain And Swelling, Walking With Limp, Light Fever. Medical Attention Required?

I fell on the outside of my ankle last weekend running down a mountian in hiking boots. My friend turned around quick because she thought a twig had snapped behind her. I heard/felt a loud pop. I was able to hobble down for like 2 miles and had very minimal immediate swelling. I've been RICEing religiously. Swelling got worse for a few days and now it seems better. Although my ankle seems wider. I have been able to walk with a small limp. I have a lot of pain on the outside of my ankle when I touch it, so much that I feel nauseous. I've had little appetite this week and have a bit of a fever. Not sure if its related. There is only minimal bruising. Should I wait to see a doctor or get in now?

From the mode of injury and afterward pain it seems that you might have undisplaced fracture of lower end fibula( the outer bone of ankle). First of all an X rays Should be done. It will make clear. Other thing is Below knee Splint. for complete immobilisation for at least 3 weeks. Elevation. and active toe mobility. Even if there is no frcature on X rays. We take it as ligament injury or ankle sprain. Even then ideally a splint should be aaplied. Plaster of paris or Fibre glass. Along with NSAIDs and Trypsin-Chymotrypsin Combination for 3-4 days. lastly, Go to Doctor Immediately.

Note: For further queries, consult a joint and bone specialist, an Orthopaedic surgeon. Book a Call now.
