Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Any Advice For Bloody Stool Preceded By Stomach Cramps And Pain Which Eased By Buscapan?
I have had severe stomach cramps for four days, been taking buscapan and the pain eased today, however I have just had to dash to the toilet and there was a lot and I mean a lot of blood in the toilet bowl. I normally take fibregel as I always have to go to the toilet often. Please advise betty.
Noted your history. Since you are taking Fibregel regularly the stools may be soft but if more than required is taken then the stools may be unnecessarily soft or loos; hence I would advise you to adjust the dosages. As for the cramps in abdomen followed by blood stools the cause looks to be colitis and may be due to infection or so. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Consult your Doctor or go to ER for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations of stool and blood. If there is any evidence of intestinal bacterial infection or amoebiasis then you would be treated accordingly. Continue taking Buscopan when there is spasm/cramps. Take plenty of oral fluids and electrolyte solution to avoid dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
