Any Chance Of Normal Delivery With Single Loose Loop Of Cord Around Fetus Neck?
hello doctor....i m 37 week pregnant and i had my sonography yesterday but sonography said that single loose loop of cord was seen around neck....what does it mean?is there any chance of normal delivery or i have to go for c-section...?please guide me....
A loop of cord around the neck does not mean that a normal delivery is not possible. It depends upon if the loop is encircling the neck or not and how tight the loop is. sometimes the cord is just lying by the side of the neck and nothing happens. This is very common so I give a trial to my patients with close monitoring during labor.
A trial of labor in a hospital with facility for emergency cesarean section is the usual protocol. There is a risk of the loop becoming tight during labor and decreasing the babies heart rate so emergency cesarean may be needed. Some women prefer a cesarean as they do not want to take any risk.
So discuss this with your doctor and then decide.
Hope this helped. Thanks for using HCM. Have a safe delivery.
