Are Gabapentin Or Oxcarbazepine Effective At Treating Complex Partial Seizures?
I am currently taking carbamazepine for Complex Partial Seizures and was wondering if there was something newer and safer out there. I ve done a little research and found Gabapentin and Oxcarbamezapine. My neurologist suggested Keppra, but I don t like the side effects.
In terms of efficacy, carbamazepine is very effective, there is no particular benefit in switching it to the other drugs if it's working in preventing the seizures. Where these drugs can be considered superior is the lower frequency of side effects compared to carbamazepine. So if you have prominent side effects from carbamazepine, they would be worthy alternatives for those types of seizures.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
