Are Rabivax And Tetanus Taken 6 Days Post Exposure To A Baby Monkey Effective?
Hi I m 36 yrs old women. a baby monkey held my foot before 6 days but I didn t feel any scratches so I did not get any vaccine but today I felt some scratches (not sure if they were because of the monkey) so I went to my physician and he gave me rabivax and tetnus. Is it ok to be so late with it. I a worried that I may get rabies .. please suggest
Monkeys can transmit rabies infection, but as you have already taken the vaccine, there is not much to worry. The only thing is you have delayed in taking the vaccine, normally the vaccine should be taken within 24 hours of exposure to a bite from a rabid animal, as the production of antibodies starts after 7 days of vaccination.
But if you had taken an immunoglobulin injection then you are protected by the preformed antibodies so you are safe. Yet, there is no need to panic, just be vigilant and seek medical help whenever needed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
