Are Vyvanse And Adderall The Right Medicines For ADD In Children?

I have two sons - one (12) id d as Type 1 classic ADD and the second (13) id d as Type 2 (Inattentive ADD) Child one is now settled in to 27 mg Concerta and is doing very very well - academically and otherwise. Child two - we are still struggling to find suitable dosage/med for treatment. Currently Rxd 20mg Vyvanse by physician - yet, Dr Amen suggests Adderall, Ritalin, Dexedrine and Cylert for this Type. Would Vyvanse be considered compatable?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

Vyvanse is lisdexamfetamine and the drug is a stimulant drug. The drug is related to drugs like Adderall, Ritalin, Concerta and is a stimulant like these drugs. The drug is safe to use if used in proper prescribed doses, but it has minor side effects like nausea, vomiting, restlessness, anxiety, intense stimulation, hypotension by vasomotor phenomenon, tics, twitches in muscles, severe headache etc. It may lower down the seizure threshold and may result in seizures in some susceptible individuals. It is also a drug of abuse like other amphetamines and it results in development of tolerance also.

The drug is commonly used in inattentive type of ADD in children, some cases of adult ADD, in some depressive disorders etc. Yes the drug is considered compatible drug for ADD.

Thanks, hope this helps you. Take care
