Are Back Pain, Headache And Fatigue Side Effects Of Doxycycline?

I took amoxicillin and Doxycycline for 4 days for an infection, the medications were prescribed by a primary care physician. I am having back pain in the area of my kidneys on both sides headaches and fatigue. I have stopped taking the medications. How likely is it that my kidneys are damaged and what could I do tonight until I can see the Dr on Wednesday? Thanks

Hello,

Amoxicillin and doxycycline are not known to usually cause the symptoms you describe, or to damage the kidneys, so I would suspect there is another cause. I am not sure what kind of infection you were being treated for but perhaps it is due to the infection.

Regardless, if you are concerned your kidneys might be damaged, the best thing you can do is drink plenty of water to make sure they are getting perfused well and to help eliminate any toxins that might be in your blood.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
