Are Blisters And Foul Smell Around Burn Wounds A Matter Of Concern?
My daughter has second degree burns on 25percent of her body. (Legs .. Feet and left hand..).. Some of her blisters r bursting. We have been putting salve on as prescribed.... Non stick pads and gauze.....They have a smell.... And a spot has some green on the bandage. She is taking pain medicine. She sees her Dr. tomorrow. Should we be concerned?
Foul smell and green discharge on dressing are signs that the area is infected. Pseudomonas is a common cause of infection of burn wounds. If I was the treating doctor I would suggest a course of a broad spectrum oral antibiotic, e.g., either Cefixime or Ceftriaxone or Ceftazidime along with application of topical Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) containing gel which would encourage factor healing of the skin.
