My 67 year old female cousin, diagnosed with rectal cancer, just beginning chemo and radiation. Second opinion doctor ordered an MRI that shows one lymph node affected.

Hi,

It may also be used after surgery to destroy any remaining cancer cells. Both approaches have worked to treat this disease. Chemotherapy is often given at the same time as radiation therapy, called chemoradiation therapy, to increase the effectiveness of radiation therapy.
