Are Combination Of Avonex, Monthly Iv Of Steroids, Azoran Right For MS?
Hi My son has been diagnosed with MS and has been on Avonex for 9 months. He has had one episode since. After a course of steroids his recent MRI shows most of the lesions healed but one active lesion on the spine. The doctor has prescribed continuation of Avonex, monthly iv of steroids and added Azoran. What is your opinion of this combination
Hi, thanks for posting your concern in the HCM. Your doctor is absolutely correct regarding the treatment regimen. Early initiation of interferon therapy (Avonex) in combination with steroid and immuno-suppressant (Azathioprine, marketed as Azoran is most widely used in MS for that purpose) not only causes remission from active disease by limiting inflammation and improving neuron survival but also prevent relapses. I would have given him 5 out 5 stars for this treatment. So, please don't worry. I think your son is at good hands. Hope you are satisfied with my answer.
