Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are Constipation, Abdominal Pain, Bloating, And Pain In The Knees, Arms And Elbow Due To IBS And Arthritis?
I have IBS, usually with constipation. The constipation seems to be resolved but I still have abdominal pain, bloating, gas, low back pain, pains above the back of the thighs near the knees, pains above the wrist on the inside of my arms, pain in my elbow and in the knee. My doctor thinks I have IBS and arthritis. I don t feel so sure.
Since you have a history of bloating, abdominal pain, the gas you should get examined & get evaluated for IBS. Your doctor may want you to get upper endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, X-Rays done.
You may have to get stool test, tests for lactose intolerance done. Certain food & stress trigger IBS, take fibre-rich diet & healthy lifestyle changes.
Do regular exercise & take adequate water & sleep. Avoid addictions(smoking, caffeine, alcohol, etc) if any.
Take antispasmodics & probiotics for relieving. Laxatives to avoid constipation. Pain in the knee & elbow joints can be due to RA/OA.
Take tests for rheumatoid factor & anti-CCP antibodies to get evaluated for RA.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
