Are Cramps, Severe Runny Tummy And Bloating Feeling Normal After Pancreatitis?

Hello,

I had my gall bladder removed on 30 Nov 2011. At this time I also had pancreatitis (spent 2 days nil per mounth only on drip). I was feeling better and around Xmas I ate everything and no side effects...last week I started gym again and eating low GI carbs (ie oats for breakfeast) - lots of salads and protein and now I am feeling lethargic , cramps severe runny tummy and feel bloated...is this normal?
Thank you for your time.
Regards
Sara

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
To have developed the symptoms of runny tummy, lethargy, severe cramps and bloating is not normal after settlement from the gall bladder surgery and pancreatitis after some gap.
Yes, it is possible that you have an added problem or development of pancreatitis again.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Get the CT scan of the whole abdomen done particularly for pancreas.
Stool tests on three consecutive days.
Tests of blood for CBC, pancreas, liver and kidney function.
Colonoscopy.
ALl these with correlation with clinical picture by a Gastroenterologist can help you to get the most proper diagnosis aso that a proper management can be instituted.
In the meantime get a course of an antibiotic if indicative by stool tests.
Pancreatic enzyme supplements to be taken with food.
Identify the foods and beverages that instigate or enhance the problems and stop these altogether.
