Are Cysts In The Liver And Kidneys A Matter Of Concern?
Thank you. My MRI showed I have A 9 mm cyst in the left liver and 12 mm cyst in the inferior right liver. The portal and hepatic veils are patent? Am I suppose to be worried? I am 72 years old and female. A 9 mm cyst is noted at the upper pole of the left kidney.
Cysts are masses that are not cancerous and most often they are not dangerous. Simple cysts of the liver contain fluid. This can be seen on liver imaging with ultrasound or CT scanning. They are found in about 1 percent of adults and are more common in women than men.
Simple cysts are the most common type of kidney cyst. Simple kidney cysts most often do not cause harm. They are not the same thing as polycystic kidney disease, which is a progressive disease that can lead to kidney failure.
In case you are symptomatic, then you would require proper follow-up and appropriate management. Otherwise, it is nothing much to be worried about.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
General & Family Physician
