Are Dizziness And Vomiting Due To Stopping Of Venlafaxine Suddenly?

Hi there, i have been taking venlafaxine 150mg daily for 3 months and have lost a box i had left. I have run out and this is the 2nd day i havnt had it. My doctor doesnt have any appointments until next week and i dont want to go back as i was there 2 weeks ago for a repeat of my quetiapine. I am very dizzy and have been vomiting. I drove home from work and had a near black out. Is this because I have stopped taking them suddenly?

Dr. Hanif warmly welcomes you with thanks for a consult!

I have carefully worked through your case, and can well realize your health worries. Being your physician, I want to assure, I will take care all of your medical concerns according to the latest medical guidelines.

Venlafaxine doesn't cause such issues like Vomiting and dizziness when stopped abruptly. Definitely you needed to taper the dose off when planning to be off of the drug. Abruptly stoppage without slow tapering off the drug Venlafaxine leads to Flu Like symptoms if any.

I still suggest you to get yourself evaluated by your treating doctor as it is not a proper way to stop taking the medicine.

If I was your treating physician I would have evaluated you for Gastroenteritis (infection of the digestive tract) and if found your vomiting be due to that, I would have prescribed you with Rifaximin, Ondansetron and Oral Rehydration Solution.
