Are Dormant Cold Sores Below The Lower Lip A Concern?

I regularly get cold sores and usually treat it early with Abreva cream. I do notice what seems to be dormant cold sore bumps just below the lower lip. The bumps are raised and noticeable and remain even after my cold sore outbreak is over. Are these dormant cold sores waiting to be triggered? How can I treat this? Thank you

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history, you are having cheilitis. My treatment advice is :

1. Don't squeeze the lesions as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a lip balm with sunscreen once a day.
3. Take a vitamin b12 supplement once daily for 3 months.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
