Thanks for posting your query on HCM!
I appreciate your concern for your partner.
Since she is being diagnosed to have Tolosa Hunt syndrome having nonspecific inflammation involving several nerves supplying the muscles of the eye and face.
Steroids are the commonly used drugs in the treatment of Tolosa Hunt.
Treatment is given at the initial dose for a short time (ie, 7-10 d) after pain resolves, then the dose is tapered gradually.

Weight gain as noticed by your partner is due the side effects of steroids which are responsible for retaining sodium & water in the body causing oedema, weight gain and high blood pressure.

If a patient is unable to tolerate steroid therapy, other immunosuppressive therapy may be considered. So kindly consult your doctor for further evaluation.

I hope your query has been answered to your expectation.
Regards!
