My son is 2 yrs old. He is suffering from fever and congestional cough from the last 6 days. Doctor has advised to give levolin syrup and Megamentin syrup. I m giving the medicine from last 2 days. Now the antibiotic has finished but he is having fever after 9-10 hrs. Should i continue use of antibiotic. And what to be done for cough and nasal blockage. As nothing is improved yet. His cough is not curing at all. Will u advice which medicine should I give for treatment of cough. Pls advice as I m very much tensed.
Most cough and colds are due to viral infections , though bacterial infection can occur, so you may not need to continue the antibiotic.
Nasal congestion can be treated with topical or oral decongestants. Eg of topical decongestants are normal saline or pediatric otrivine. Oral decongestants are pseudoephridrine and phenyephrine- these would normally be found in cough and cold syrups.
I hope this helps
