Are Long-lasting Bruises On Back And Head Signs Of Low Platelet Count?

My son is 18 months old and has a history of thrombocytopenia. He has had a healthy platelet level for 4 months now. However, he has a bruise on his head and a bruise on his back, both of which have lasted for 3 weeks. Are these long-lasting bruises a sign of low platelets?

Welcome to H.C.M. I am Dr Krishna Dubey.
Platelets are small cells that circulate in the blood and whose function is to take part in the clotting process. An adequate number of normally functioning platelets is also needed to prevent leakage of red blood cells from apparently uninjured vessels.
These long lasting bruises are looking due to thrombocytopenia.
I suggest you to repeat platelet counts so it will be very helpful for further management.Keep in touch.
Thanx for query.
