Are Moments Of Confusion, Forgetfulness And Inappropriate Involutional Changes Related To Dementia?
My husband’s most recent MRI showed age inappropriate involutional changes. He had a melanoma brain tumor 5 years ago that was resected and followed with radiation. His oncologist just said we should get a referral to a specific neurologist from his nephrologist. We do not want to do any more MRIs as his eGFR is only 23 and worsening due to PKD. Should I be concerned that he is developing dementia? He has moments of confusion and is becoming incredibly forgetful. He is 56.
Brain melanoma are generally metastatic tumor and these usually are very less responding to chemo or radiotherapy. Therefore, in symptomatic cases, surgical resection seems the appropriate treatment. Definitely, the symptoms of confusion, forgetfulness may be due to brain melanoma.
Also, as his eGFR is less due to PKD. Hence, besides a nephrologist, he should definitely be re-assessed by a neurologist for proper evaluation of his condition and treatment accordingly. To do MRI or not should be decided by the treating doctors based on considerations of benefits vs risks.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
