Are Nausea And Stomach Cramps An Indication To Pregnancy?
Hi I had a contraceptive implant removed on the 29th march because of the terrible side effects it gave me. the doctor advised me that there was a 50/50 percent chance that i may get pregnant because i had had sex of the 27th march. I was given the morning after pill just in case, but was advised it probably will not work. Two days later i started to feel nauseous, have stomach cramps, feel head achy, and have felt like that till this day. I took a test but its negative, but I still wonder, Am I pregnant? or are my symptoms just the side effects of having the implant removed.
Hello, In the current scenario, it is more likely that you may be experiencing the withdrawal effects of the removed implant as well as the emergency contraceptive pill, which contains high doses of hormone. Pregnancy is unlikely since you had the intercourse with the implant in situ. You can expect to see some withdrawal bleeding in a couple of days. If you still suspect pregnancy, please get an estimation of the serum beta-hCG titres done, at least ten days after the intercourse. Hope this helps.
You had sexual intercourse on 27th March when contraceptive implant was in. Moreover, you have taken morning after pill within the 24 hours of sexual intercourse. Both these methods have good success rate. So chances of your pregnancy are very low.
The symptoms like nausea & vomiting, start about 10 days after you have missed period. So far you have not missed period. So this nausea & vomiting is most likely due to the implant you had and the morning after pill. Some antacids like Pantoprazole will give you relief.
Now please wait for the menses to appear. They may appear little earlier also. If they do not appear in time, then 8-10 days after you have missed period, you may get urine pregnancy test and/or ultrasonography test done for diagnosis of pregnancy. These tests done earlier are not conclusive. However, beta hCG test is very specific and sensitive and may give reliable results just 2-3 days after the missed period.
I am sure you have got a scientific explanation and advice for you problem.
