Are Nitroglycerin Tablets Normally Prescribed After Angioplasty?

I HAD A ANGIOPLASTY DONE ON jUNE 29 THEY FOUND A N OLDER STENT PARTILLY BLOCKED tHEY OPENED IT WITH A BALOON, THEN SENT ME TO A 2ND SURGEON WHO IMPLANTED A STENT ON THE OTHER SIDE ( DESCENDING ) ARTERY ) i WAS DISCHCHARED THE NEXT DAY nOW 2 WEEKS LATER ONCE OR TWICE A DAY i HAVE TO POP A NITRO. iS THIS NORMAL? i AM ON PLAVIX & OTHER BLOOD PRESSURE & CHOLESTERAL DRUGS. mY bp ABOUT 130/70 MY mY TOTAL CHOLESTRAL 85 OTHER NO S GOOD sHOULD i BE CONCERNED ?

Hi welcome to HCM.
Since you had earlier stent stenosis,there is an extremely high possibility of restenosis in the new stent,antiplatelet drugs and antiproliferative agents are undoubtedly required to prevent this complication.Its absolutely normal to have pop of nitroglycerine as it leads to coronary vasodilatation and coronary blood flow.Your blood pressure seems to be in the normal range.It is advised to continue the plavix and cholesterol lowering medications to maintain stent patency.Periodical screening 2 dimensional echo can help to evaluate the cardiac functional status.Consult your cardiologist for further queries.
