These chemicals are mucosal irritants / corrosives and cause symptoms like abdominal pain, ulceration of oral and gastrointestinal mucosa and respiratory distress. Since it is a potentially toxic chemical, it can cause death in excessive doses. It should not be consumed at any costs. Taking medical help is essential to avoid complications.
