Are Sharp Pain Spasms In The Lower Abdomen Due To Kidney Stones?
Hello Doctor: I am writing for a friend who has extreme pain except when she is lying down. It is in the kidney area but her doctor s have not suggested that this is what is wrong with her. She fell about 4 months ago and cracked several bones, she is 85 years old. Everyone seems to think that her pain is the result of her fall but why is it still going on. She is taking pain pills all the time but is making an effort to get up and move around. She has had x-rays but they are not revealing any cause for this pain. Could she have kidney stones? She often has sudden sharp spasms of pain. If you could comment that would be appreciated
Hello. There are some considerations to make: - she had previous fractures, but recently x ray have not revealed any possible cause for her pain - if she had pain due to kidney stones, it would probably not change with the position of the body (she would have it also when lying down) - in my opinion, it is possible that she has had an analgesic posture since she fell and cracked her bones: this analgesic posture may have induced the contraction and consequent inflammation of deep muscles (in particular Ileopsoas). The inflammation of Ileopsoas may simulate the pain of kidney colic. In the supin position this muscle is relaxed and this could explain her sympthoms. I suggest you a consult from a physiotherapist or a chiropractor.
