Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a small bump on my lip. It seems to be filled with fluid or air. There is no head or puss or blood or anything and not really pain unless i poke at it or bite it. I put some hydrogen peroxide on it and it seemed to be helping a little, but now i have all these little white marks on the area where i put the hydrogen peroxide.Have i bleached my lip? Is this permanent? What should i do?
Hydrogen peroxide at high concentrations (>10%), is corrosive to skin, eyes, and mucous membranes, lower concentrations may cause irritation. Hydrogen peroxide splashed onto the skin could cause the skin to blanch, or whiten, for a short time. When you dab hydrogen peroxide on a cut, that white, fizzling foam is actually a sign that that the solution is killing bacteria as well as healthy cells. This is the case that happened to you as well, left the permanent mark over your lips. You can use lip balm (Aquaphor and Dr. Lipp) for soothing effects however cosmetic lips sticks can be used as well for beauty purposes.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammad Bilal Khan, General & Family Physician
