Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just had a "sour burp," as I like to call them. Basically, I burped and a little liquid that burned came up into my mouth - and it tasted suspiciously like vomit. I'm an Emetophobe (afraid of throwing up) and want to know if this is a sign I'm going to throw up soon, stomach acid, or something else.
Hello, You are suffering from Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and increased acid production in stomach. GERD usually occur due to abnormal relaxation of lower oesophageal sphincter/ impaired expulsion of gastric reflux from oesophagus/ a hiatal hernia. Other factors that contribute are obesity, zollinger- Ellison syndrome, scleroderma etc. Go for some investigations like- Oesophago gastro dudenoscopy, 24 hour pH monitoring, Barium swallow x ray, endoscopy guided biopsy. You should consult a surgeon for further management. Some life style changes and medications can be helpful. avoid taking heavy meal at a time and spicy/ fatty food and also alcohol. take small meal at frequent interval and high fibre diet with fresh fruit and vegetables. Take tab. pantoprazole 40mg bd 1/2 hour before meal for 15 days followed by once in a day for another 15 days. you can also take Mucaine gel suspension. Take care bye.
