Are The Contents In Glass Thermometer Toxic?

found a broken glass thermometer in my home. My son who is 2 yrs. 4 mo. was sick last week and I left it on the nightstand. Today I found it with no tip and no mercury. So it could have broke today are or within the last couple of days. He says he did not bite it but I am worried. Are the amounts in a glass thermometer toxic?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, the broken glass piece is dangerous. Even the mercury is very dangerous. If it has not been swallowed then why to worry, why to be panic when no evidence is there, no symptoms are there.

Just forget about it, and if you find some evidence that it is being swallowed then better to see the ER.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Akhtarhusain
