Are The Kidneys Impacted On Falling On Ribs (mid Range And Side) And Its Hurting In All Movements?

Hi,
My wife slipped with a child in her hands today and in protecting the child, landed on her ribs. They are likely bruised, but I am checking to see about concerns with her kidneys. The impact is mid-range of back and side of ribs. She says it hurts to walk, cough, and most things. She is lying down now and has taken some pain medication. Thank you,
Jason C.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The ribs and surrounding muscles should protect the kidneys. Signs and symptoms of trauma to the kidneys are: (1) blood in the urine
(2) discomfort on urination
(3)decrease in urine output

In the absence of any of these symptoms and based on the symptoms that you have described , it is likely that she sustained injury to the ribs and muscles only.

This would be relieved with rest and anti inflammatory pain medication.

The use of a heat pad may also be helpful to her.

I hope this helps
