Are The Symptoms Of Continued Penile Discharge 72 Hours After A Single Dose Of Azithromycin A Sign That The Antibiotics Are Working?

Hi I’m a 25 year old male and had unprotected sex about 3 weeks ago. Two weeks after this event I started having penile discharge that was yellowish in the morning and would be clear to whiteish at times as well. I went to the doctor and he prescribed a single dose of 250mg of azithromycin this past Monday i I took them at 1230pm on that day. It is Thursday now so almost 72 hours later I still have discharge but not very much. Do these antibiotics sound like they’re working?

Hello,

Your symptom is indicative of gonorrhea. It is treated with an antibiotic dosage. Commonly, The medication is Ceftriaxone IM or Cefixime along with a single dose of azithromycin. Both are given at a single sitting. Avoid doing unprotected sex and also avoid multiple partners.

Get clinically examined and to stay on the safer side get done STD tests to detect or rule out STI like gonorrhea, chlamydia, or mycoplasma genitalium, your doctor will prescribe antibiotics to treat the infection. Get your partner treated also.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
