Are There Alternatives To HRZ For Primary Complex Treatment?
My son who is 1 year and 5 months old is diagnosed to have primary complex. This is the 3rd day to take HRZ. The two days were so traumatic for him, the medicines would cause him to vomit all his food/milk intake. Is there any altenative way to treat his illness/
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic. I can understand your concern. HRZ is having isoniazid (H), Rifampicin (R) and pyrazinamide (Z). All are must in primary complex in children. So there are no alternative to these drugs. And vomiting is common after these drugs. This is because of gastritis caused by these drugs. So to avoid this, give antacid and anti emetic drugs before giving HRZ. You can also give HRZ after some food. If still he is having vomiting then get done ultrasound examination of abdomen and liver function test to rule out jaundice (HRZ induced jaundice). So discuss allergy these with his treating doctor. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your son. Thanks.
