Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Are There Any Interactions Between Amitriptyline And Imipramine?
My son has been having serious migraines. He went to the neurologist today and they prescribed amitriptyline. He already takes imipramine for bladder control at night. I am concerned about the drug interaction of the amitriptyline and imipramine. Do you have any advice? Thank you.
Avoid giving this combination. Both of the given medications belong to same group of tricyclic antidepressants.
Taking Amitriptyline together with Imipramine may increase side effects such as drowsiness, blurred vision, dry mouth, decreased sweating, increased body temperature, flushing, urinary retention, constipation, increased heartbeats, confusion, and memory problems.
So, his doctor may be consulted for an alternate effective but a safer medication to treat migraine.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
