Are There Any Precautions On Activities/rides To Son Who Has Swimmer S Ear?
Hi - My 12 year old son was diagnosed with swimmer s ear and has been on antibiotic ear drops for 36 hours. His summer camp group is going to an amusement park tomorrow. Are there any precautions on activities/rides such as roller coasters which will have him being bounced, swung and flipped around? In other words, are his ears vulnerable to sudden motions and changes in equilibrium?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history of swimmer's ear in you son and is already under antibiotic drops. Since he wants to join amusement park tomorrow, I would advise him the following. To instill anti-fungal ear drops in both the ears and to use the ear mufflers to block the entry of the water. Instruct him to be in the water not for more than 3 hours. Do not worry about the other aspects as the infection does not traverse to the area you have mentioned unless there is spread of infection. It would be wise to get him him started on oral antibiotics. Children should play.
