Are There Any Repercussions Of Not Taking Levothyroxine?
Good morning, I am a 54 year old woman and I had my thyroid removed in 2006 I have been out of my levothyroxine since Friday what are the repercussions of not taking my medication I have been on the same medication since my surgery levothyroxine .175 mcg Thanks if I had money to go to the Dr I would,t be here
Hi, I have gone through your question & understand your concern.
As your thyroid gland is removed surgically, it means you are hypothyroid. If you do not take levothyroxine, you can have serious consequences. It will decrease your metabolic rate leading to weight gain, lethargy, weakness, sleepiness, hair loss, increased sensitivity to cold, dry skin, impaired memory, slow heart rate & constipation. So do not skip your medication.
I hope, my answer will help you. Regards, Dr. Maria Daud
