Are There Any Side Effects Of Having Pep Medication?
I am a 31 year old gay man and had unprotected anal sex with another male I had just met. It has been a little over 24 hours and I do not know if I should go seek HIV pep treatment. I have read that because I was the top that the risk would be less and may not be worth having the side effects of the pep medication or that they may not offer me the pep medication because of the type of exposure.

Hello, Thnx to contact us. If I am your treating doctor I would like to advice you that you should go for PEP, there are some side effects of PEP like acute gastritis and liver damage which requires constant laboratory monitoring. But having anal sex with unknown gay increases your chance of having HIV, because anal sex has most serious potential to have HIV. Having on the top will reduce some chances of having HIV, but it is not that low that you ignore it, so in my advice you should go for PEP and monitor the lab finding. If you have anything else to ask please contact me. Thanx. Dr. Arun Tank
