Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter has been on Beyaz for 3 months and has noticed a change in her emotions. She is an athlete and exercises regularly and has noticed weight gain. Her periods have become lighter but she doesn t like the way Beyaz makes her feel. She has a new script for microgestin. How long will the Beyaz be in her system and should she stop taking birth control all together and get her body and mind back in order or try the microgestin?
Hello, Welcome to HCM. I understand your concern. If she has already stopped beyaz than it should not take longer than a week to come out of its side effects. This drug is basically combination of two hormones namely estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and synthetic progesterone (Drospirenone) along with levomefolate (a form of folic acid vitamin). Your daughter is having side effects like mood changes, weight gain, scanty menstruation, etc. Most of these are due to synthetic progesterone (Drospirenone). Now microgestin is again another synthetic progesterone along with estrogen. So it is very likely that your daughter will get similar side effects with that as well but intensity may be slightly lesser. So if the side effects are very bothering than she should stop taking birth control pill and choose another form of contraception. Hope this will be helpful. Take care
