Are There Any Side Effects Of Taking EVA-Q Syrup For Constipation?

hi,my self 58yr old.i am going through constipation problem for last 1 months. He passed hard stool sometimes.my doctor suggested me EVA-Q syrup. But i am a heart patient. Now many people suggest me to give creamffin syrup. i would like to know whether this syrup has got any side effects and i can give this syrup for a long time. plz advise me.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As your age is 58 years and you have a new onset constipation so it needs some investigations. You should undergo stool test for occult blood for three consecutive days but if you are a non vegetarian stop taking non vegetarian diet 3 days before and during test days.
Also avoid any iron medication 3 days before and during test days.
Now coming to your laxative I would suggest to avoid prolonged use of magnesium based laxatives which is harmful.
Instead you should take plenty of fluids, high fiber diet and use bulk laxatives with water(fiber based).
