Are Thinning Of Hair And Tiredness Due To Thyroid Problem?

I have been diaganosed with diabeties last May 2014. I have lost 20lbs in the past year. I am managing my diabities quite well. I am ususally in the low 4.5 to 5.9 everyday. I am taking metformin 2000mg a day. 2 pills in the am and 2 pills in the pm at supper. I walked between 2 1/2 miles to 3 1/2 miles each day (not the weekends). I am also on crestor, a.s.a., Exorfor, and metformin. Lately I have noticed my hair is really thinning, and I am very tired my hands a feet are very often cold. I was wondering if I have a thyroid problem.

Hello dear user!
Welcome to healthcaremagic!
I've gone through your medical history and understand your concerns!

Thyroid problems are seen often in patients who suffer from diabetes too, especially to the patients who are treated with insulin.
Your supposing is right, periodic analysis of thyroid function must be done.
Lack of thyroid hormone may lead to weakness, tirendenss, constipation, thin and fragile hair, dry skin, cold intolerance etc.
So I would recommend you to go through a hormonal analysis of T3, T4, TSH, and antiTPO. These hormones indicate the function of the gland, and any possible autoimmune disease which damages thyroid.
If the hormones levels are low, additional medication should be taken orally.
Please feel free to ask again after you take the results, I would be happy to answer.
If you find helpful this answer please rate it.

Wishing you all the best!
