Are Weakness And Nausea Side Effects Of Donepezil?
My husband has been taking donepezil for dementia. He is complaining of weakness & has vomited once in the last few days. He has no fever or indications of any other illness. He does not take any other prescription medications. Could the donnepezil be the culprit & perhaps he shouldn t take it but maybe namenda instead?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Donepezil is a medication used in the palliative treatment of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. It helps to improve cognition and behavior of people with Alzheimer's disease. However, it does not slow the progression of or cure the disease. Common side effects include loss of appetite, gastrointestinal upset, diarrhea, difficulty sleeping, vomiting, fatigue and muscle cramps. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur, you need to seek medical attention promptly. Kindly consult your doctor for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope the information provided helps.
Best wishes.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.
