At What Point Does The BP Considered Dangerous In A 50 Year Old And Having A Balanced Diet?
I am a 50 year old female that exercises several times a week and eats a relatively healthy diet but have seen my blood pressure continue to increase over the years. My pressure was 170 over 110 yesterday and 158 over 107 today. At what point does high blood pressure become dangerous?

Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Ivo Ditah's Response
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this increased blood pressure. A blood pressure of less than 140/80mmHg is considered normal. Any value greater than this is concerning and represents a continuum of increased risk. the higher the reading the higher the risk. There is no one magical cut off value which represent risk and the other doesn't but it is rather a continuum of increased risk of complications as the blood pressure values increase.
I will suggest that you get your blood pressure measured and managed accordingly. A primary care physician would make a great start.
I hope you find this helpful. I wish you well and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Dr. Ivo, MD.
