Baby Suffering From Cough, Cold. No Help With Medicines. Advice?
Hi Doctor, My 10 month old son is having cold and cough for last 3-4 days . We have given him Timinic drops for past 3-4 days (2 times a day) but his cough is not improving. He has no fever and is very active otherwise. I guess Azithral Jr is also precribed in though scenarios where normal pediatrics cold and cough medicines are not providing any help. Please advise Thanks
hello and thanks for your query.
Cold and cough is usually caused by virus and generally there is no need or use for antibiotics like Azithral. It will also take about a week to become normal, so you need not worry now as it has been only 3 to 4 days.As he is active and feeding well, there should be no cause of worry.
Since he is only 10 months old and cant blow out the cold from his nose, the phlegm will go backwards into his throat( post nasal drip) and cause cough.I advise you to use decongestant pediatric nasal drops like 'nasivion paed' before feed and before bedtime, but not more than 4 times a day. You will find significant improvement. Also keep the room humid( use a vaporizer available in pharmacy).
If you feel the cough is worsening or hear whistling noises from the chest, please take him to the pediatrician to check for wheezing.
Hope your child recovers soon.Take care. Bye
