Hi i am Dr.kadhir,
The most likely cause for the pain could be
steroid induced
gastritis. It is better to meet your doctor as this could be as simple as responding to antacids or can end up in serious complications like gastric ulcer.
It is important to get treated early with regular follow up.
The NICE guidelines for the treatment of any gastritis suggests the following steps:
Stopping smoking and ceasing alcohol consumption if you are doing it , more regular meal and avoid spicy foods .
Antacids may give relief of occasional symptoms. Antacids can cause disturbance of bowel function.
H. pylori tests as advised by your doctor (
urea breath test, stool antigen or serology) and eradicate the organism using antibiotics, if positive.
Take Proton Pump Inhibitors ( eg: pantaprazole) for one month : if no response then take
metoclopramide or
ranitidine for one month. These drugs should be taken only under doctors advice and monitoring.
Thank you for the consultation in health care magic.
