Being Allergic To Sulfa And Penicillin What Other Medicines Can Be Taken To Cure Acne?

My son is has allergies to sulfa and penicillin, and recently has been on minocycline and doxycycline for his acne…however, he just stopped both because of some recent swelling of the lips. He is ok and taking an antihistamine, Are there any other choices of meds for his acne given his history

Hello,
Thank you for posting on HCM.
As your son is allergic to sulpha and penicillin i would strongly advise you to avoid tetracycline group of drugs like Doxycycline, minocycline etc. I would recommend Oral isotretinoin and azithromycin for the treatment. Also he can safely use creams containing clindamycin/nadifloxacin and benzoyl peroxide or adapalene/tretinoin. Use gentle cleanser like cetaphil os for daily face wash.
Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and avoid fatty and junk food as far as possible.
Thank you
