Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for using healthcare magic.

I have gone through your available history.

If you are having weight gain, you should consult your psychiatrist for detailed evaluation and management. Doctor may rule out thyroid dysfunction which may be possible with lithium treatment.

You should not stop/change the medication without consulting your doctor as it may worsen your condition.

You may get more benefit by doing relaxation exercise and counselling.

Thanks.

Psychiatrist Dr. Anjana Rao Kavoor's  Response
hi.
From what i could gather, you have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and were on lithium carbonate in the past. Lithium is a mood stabilizer, which 'stabilizes' the fluctuations in mood state typical of bipolar disorder. Trileptal is carbamazepine, which also acts as mood stabilizer. There are individual variations in response to various mood stabilizers. Though carbamazepine is not known to cause significant weight gain, there are other issues which need to be considered while prescribing mood stabilizers, which only a qualified psychiatrist can do.
The names of other drugs that you have mentioned here are unclear (?gadon) and hence i am unable to comment on them.

In your best interest, i would advise you to get in touch with your doctor at the earliest and discuss all these with him/her. what you are going through is something which psychiatrists deal with very commonly, and hence there is no need to be shy or terrified to open up.

hope this helps.
Dr. A. Rao
