Blood And Foul Smell From Belly Button, Tear Appeared, Cleaned It. What Is It?

My husband was working really hard the other day lifting and moving some things that were pretty heavy. Well a few days ago we noticed he had blood and a foul smell coming from his belly button hole, so I took a flashlight and q-tip and looked and saw what appeared to be either a hole or tear in the lining of his belling button right at the bottom of it. So I cleaned it and he has been taking it easy so as not to make it worse. What do you think this is and what would you suggest we do?

A foul smelling discharge from belly button would mean some infection in that region now the question is it just limited to the abdominal wall or is it deeper. Suggest you to see your GP and let him/her make a call on need of further investigations.
