Hello,
Blood sugar levels indicate the amount of sugar or glucose absorbed into the bloodstream. Blood sugar levels that are either too high or too low can cause death.
A fatally high blood sugar level is anything above 550. It's possible for an adult to reach even higher levels before exhibiting any symptoms or problems. When the level reaches 600, the person develops hyperosmolar syndrome, which can cause diabetic coma and death.
Not all people experience the same problems from high blood sugar. Some people can have readings ranging up to 800 and have only minimal problems, while others may have symptoms when their levels go above 200.
The situation is very alarming as your father is having a fatally high diabetes mellitus and he must be immediately admitted in the hospital to control it.
Thanks
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
Your father is definitely suffering from type II diabetes mellitus.
Presence of fasting blood sugar > 126 mg% and postprandial blood sugar > 200 mg% suggests the diagnosis.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ endocrinologist and should go for thorough check up.
Diabetes should not be considered as raised blood sugar and it is associated with complications involving almost all organs of body.
Your father should also go for glycated hemoglobin, complete lipid profile, renal function test, urine routine microscopy.
He should proper medication for control of blood sugar in defined range.
He should also go for serum C peptide level to know secretion of insulin in body.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
hi there, these results are clearly indicative of him being an overt diabetic. He will need to get himself checked by an endocrinologist and put on diabetic diet along with medications. If his urine was positive for ketones as well then he will need emergency treatment. Such high levels are alarming and immediate control under the guidence of a doctor is a must. Please do get him checked and take care.
