Bright Red Bloody Loose Stools. Chrones? What Could Be Causing This?
My 6 year old has recently had bright red bloody loose stools , one of the lab results shown his sed rate to be 45, and anemic. We are under care of a dr but I still have questions. Today she said he had an enlarged liver and sent us for more lab work. We are thinking possibly chrones. Is there anything else I should be asking for from my dr. We are seeing a gi specialist next week.
At first it is important to know it is blood that causing the red color as various food and medicines can give a bloody appearance.
Hematochezia ( blood in stools) could be due to a minor rectal ulcer to some serious conditions like chron's disease. It is important to take a focused history and detailed examination is most important in deriving a diagnosis.
Based on the history given by you the 2 important conditions that can have bloody loose stools with or without enlarged liver are infection ( eg: amebiasis) and chrons disease but conditions like liver diseases should also be ruled out.
I can reassure you that most of these conditions have good treatment.
I hope that i have cleared some of your doubts. Thank you for the consultation in health care magic.
