Brown Discharge. Fibroid Seen In The Ultra Sound Scan Report. Biopsy Required?

I am a 50 year old female. Went for a normal pelvic exam / pap smear. Dr. found some brownish discharge...was about 10 days after start of period. Today I had his recommended ultrasound in and out.....he found a fibroid which he didn't seem concerned about. but he had 2 measurements of my uterine lining 1.4 and 1.6 cm. ....I am eleven days out before my next period. He is concerned and suggesting that I consider a d and c OR a biopsy. what do you think?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Usually on around 11th of the menstrual cycle, around 7 to 8 mm of endometrial thickness can be expected.
According to your ultrasound findings, you are having increased endometrial thickness.
This can be due to hormonal effect in perimenopausal age group.
Can also be some proliferate problem.
So, according to your age and symptoms, better to go for D&C as advised by your doctor.
This will helps for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
If the histopathological examination shows changes only due to hormonal effect, hormonal pills may cure the problem.
Otherwise treatment to be taken accordingly to the cause.
Usually after attaining menopause, the growth of the fibroids will stop, so no need to worry.
Take care.
