Bruise, Swelling On Shin. Applying Arnicare Cream On Lump. Normal To Have Stinging Pain?

I fell on Friday as I tried to climb over my son's bike in the garage. I didn't break the skil but it did cause a huge bruise on my shin and a lot of swelling. I have been applying arnicare cream regularly and the lump is much smaller. It felt much better yesterday but I've woke up this morning and it's stinging unbearably Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,

Response to topical anti inflammatory drugs might differ from person to person which is of course normal. trauma to the shin bone depending on the intensity could be accompanied by some transitory change in sensation. I suggest you need not worry for the moment as you take the drug. Concerns should be raises if symptoms do persist after more than a week or two. Generally, this is not the case and a net amelioration is usually observed by the end of the second week. I do suggest you remain calm and watchful.

Thanks and kind regards.

Thanks for consulting at HCM
From your details it seems to be a soft tissue injury. You should take tab. Lyser D twice a day and tab Chymoral forte Thrice a day before meals. Lyser D Contains Diclofenac And Serratiopeptidase and Chymoral Forte is trypsin- chymtrypsin combination. It will reduce your swelling and pain.

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

As per your symptomatology, you could have suffered a soft tissue Hematoma. It usually resolves spontaneously within 2 weeks. It is normal to have some amount of abnormal sensations arising from the injured area.

The treatment guidelines for a hematoma are as follows -

* Rest to the injured part and don’t involve in activities which puts additional strain on the injured tissues.
* Ice packing should be applied for about 20 minutes once in every 2 hours.
* Use elastic compression bandage around the swollen area
* Elevation of the limb
* Analgesic & anti inflammatory medications

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
