Bruised Arm, Broke Skin, Took Tetanus, Hard Lump Still Remains. Will It Go Away By Itself?

Approximately 3 weeks ago I was nipped by a male mastiff protecting his girlfriend (who was in heat). I say nipped because if he wanted to, he could have done major damage to me, but didn t. Major bruising under my upper arm where where I was nipped a couple of times. Broke skin. Went to a doc in the box where they cleaned and dressed my wounds, gave me a tetanus (?) shot and an antibiotic shot. Took oral antibiotic ( Augmentin ) for 10 days. Saw ER doctor later in case I needed rabies vaccine (he didn t think it necessary since the dog had received rabies shot), and saw physician s assistant two days later. Anyway, bruising has gone, scabs are gone, but hard lump remains. Should they eventually go away or should I see a doctor again?

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

Thanks for your query.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

It is common to have the hard lump in the bruised area after any injury.
It is nothing but a hematoma.

A hematoma is a hard lump that develops at the site of the bruise, it's actually a small amount of blood pooling into the fatty tissues under the skin.

It may either painful or painless depending on the site of injury and severity of injury.

There is no need to worry about a hematoma, and the lump will resolve without any treatment. Because your hard lump of blood is outside of blood vessel and is harmless.

Your body will absorb this slowly over the next few weeks.

Hope this helps.
Please reply for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
