Bump After Hitting Upper Thigh, Painful. Is This A Serious Injury? Treatment?
Hi, 5 days ago I hit my upper thigh, just right above my knee. I got a big bump at first and now I have a huge bruise, around the bruise it's purple and in the inner part of the bruise is red and it's yellow in the middle part of the bruise. The big bump has reduced but now it hurts when I touch it. What should I do? Is this a serious injury?
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM. From the description, it appears that you have developed a soft tissueHematoma (blood clot). Generally this will resolve spontaneously within 3 weeks without any issues. But in Diabetic patients, these hematomas at times get infected (hope you are not a diabetic). Otherwise its not an issue and not a serious problem. Just use some analgesic & antiinflammatory medications along with intermittant hot fomentation. Hope this helps
