Burning Sensation After Putting Advil Pills In Mouth. Cause Of Burning?

Hi. I just took to advil pills and held them under my tongue for about two minutes while i walked to the water fountain. as i was walking i felt a burning sensation under my tongue where the pills where. it got worse as time went by. i finally decided to spit them out and drunk some water to try and soothe the pain. why did it start to burn??

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

Advil is pill that contains various chemical ingredients. My suspicion is that it caused a severe enough irritation to stimulate the pains receptors. If the concentration became to high on the same spot then an otherwise unnoticeable irritation can become a huge problem. This burning could not have been caused by any drugs related effect/action from the pill. It als has nothing to do with the stomach irritation caused by this drug.

This should not stop you fro taking advil. rather always try to swallow them whole as prescribed with a glass of water.
